SANTA FE Surf Camp with Laura
Enever: Inspiring the next generation.

31 July, 2024

Facing fear is the fuel that’s driven Laura Enever’s decorated surfing career.

Hailing from Sydney’s northern beaches, she blasted onto the world stage after being crowned
2008 ISA Junior World Champion before spending seven years on the WSL Championship
Tour.

Now, you’ll find her at the foot of the most death-defying waves on earth, pushing boundaries
as a big wave surfer, most recently setting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDTM for the largest
wave ever paddled into for a female

But Laura’s still that girl from North Narrabeen at heart. And her fond memories of a childhood
spent in the waves drive her to guide the next generation of Aussie surfers.

We spent a day with Laura in her SANTA FE Hybrid as she shared her stoke for surfing with four
young groms at the SANTA FE Surf Camp.

Laura’s day out with the groms.

“I’m actually a little bit nervous”

Laura may be used to staring down the barrels of monster waves, but this was a different kind
of challenge for the surfing star.

With boards strapped to the surfboard rack of her SANTA Fe Hybrid, the crew piled in and
headed to their local break for a day of big waves and even bigger smiles.

“If one of these groms can be inspired and want to surf more, then
my job here is done.”

For Laura, it’s always been about the rush, not the recognition.

When she tore her knee at her first big wave event, many thought the injury would scare her
off future comps. Instead, she sensationally quit the WSL tour to chase bigger swells and never
looked back.

Today, teaching young groms to be resilient in the face of failure is the basis of Laura’s passion
for giving back to the next generation.

From pre-surf stretching to standing up on a wave, we watched Laura take the groms through
all the basics, plus instilling the importance of getting back on their board when they fall and
just plain having fun.

But the most important lesson of the day? Every good session ends with ice cream.

Laura has made a name for herself by showing a bold approach not just in the face of death-
defying waves, but in life. After the camp, we sat down with Laura to dive deep into the values
she holds closest:

Overcoming fear.

“I’ve had a lot of adventures in my SANTA FE Hybrid. She’s definitely been through a lot!”

Fitted with Hyundai Genuine Accessories, including a roof rack, surfboard carrier, and floor
mats, Laura knew her SANTA FE Hybrid was up to the task of handling four highly energetic
groms.

We designed the SANTA FE Hybrid for people like Laura. With an expanded boot space, seven
seats, and an efficient dual drivetrain, it’s got everything she needs to take on the world on her
own terms. And now you can too.
