To help add some photographic fun to your journey, we’ve selected a few great spots for that quintessentially Australian shot. So pack a picnic lunch, take a leisurely weekend drive and get ready to add some spectacular pics to your Instagram!
1. NOOSA NATIONAL PARK – QUEENSLANDIf you’re Brisbane-based and haven’t ventured very far north, it might be time to check out one of the Sunshine Coast’s shining lights, Noosa. Not only will you find a thriving seaside town and extremely photogenic beach, Noosa National Park makes for an inspiring coastline walk. You’ll discover plenty of awesome photo opportunities along the way, including the beautiful fairy pools. |
2. BAY OF FIRES – TASMANIA
Fun fact: even though it's famous for the fiery red lichen-covered rocks that dot the coastline, the Bay of Fires was given its name because Captain Tobias Furneaux, who sailed to the bay in 1773, saw bushfires burning from the water. Park your Hyundai, hop around the rocks and get to snapping!
3. DEVIL’S MARBLES – NORTHERN TERRITORY
Of course, this assumes you’re based In Darwin or somewhere nearby. But if you can get to the Devil’s Marbles, you’ll discover one of the strangest, most mind-boggling rock formations in the country, and perhaps the world. This one’s sure to make a dazzling addition to your gallery.
4. TWELVE APOSTLES – VICTORIA
If you’ve never travelled the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, it may be time to check it out. As the name suggests, this road winds its way along the coast of Victoria in a great and spectacularly ocean-based way. As for the Twelve Apostles, be sure to take your time and plan your shot to do this natural wonder justice.
5. THE BLUE MOUNTAINS – NEW SOUTH WALES
Weekend getaways don’t come much more rugged, rustic and incredibly Instagrammable than a drive to the Blue Mountains about an hour-and-a-half from Sydney. In the right conditions, the majestic rock formation known as the Three Sisters is an absolute photography must!
6. ULURU – NORTHERN TERRITORY
Heard of it? Yes, of course you have. Otherwise known as Ayers Rock, this huge chunk of iconic red rock is a photo opportunity waiting to happen; it doesn’t move, so you can be as creative as you like. And don’t forget to get some really up close and personal photos at the Mutijulu waterhole.
7. MAHENO SHIPWRECK – QUEENSLAND
Last but not least, a nice spooky shipwreck for your Instagram pleasure. Australia has its share of shipwrecks, but this one on Fraser Island is a real sightseer’s delight. If you’re looking for something a little less obvious for your next Insta update, go off-road and see the Maheno shipwreck.
