We are proud to introduce Hyundai Digital Key 2 and Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch1 as a further component of our innovative Bluelink Connected Car Services. In an emergency, these innovative digital keys allow you to control your vehicle with your smartphone.  Now you can lock, unlock and start selected Hyundai vehicles via Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch, using near-field communication (NFC) and/or ultra-wideband (UWB) on smartphones or Apple Watch2, which assures a high level of security. 

Hyundai Digital Key 2

Use your mobile device to lock, unlock and start your car.

The award-winning IONIQ 5 N is the first Hyundai vehicle in Europe to feature Hyundai Digital Key 2. Now you can lock, unlock and start the IONIQ 5 N without having to take your smartphone out of your pocket. Hyundai Digital Key 2 features both near-field communication (NFC) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which allows for automatic unlocking of the vehicle from approximately 1.5 metres away.  2

    Your smartphone starts your car.

    It’s never been easier. If you have your smartphone with you inside the vehicle, all you have to do is push the brake and the start button – and you’re ready to drive off.

    Enjoy automatic unlocking of the IONIQ 5 N as you walk towards it. Thanks to ultra-wideband you no longer have to hold the smartphone against the door handle as with Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch.

    In addition to the owner’s key, 15 additional digital keys can be shared with family and friends. You can send someone a “shared key" from clear across the country which will be added to your wallet app.

    Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch

    Lock, unlock and start your car with your mobile device.

    In addition to the traditional smart key, vehicles equipped with Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch can be locked, unlocked and started via smart phones or Apple Watch. And you can share Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch with up to 15 additional people – so your family or friends can enjoy access to the vehicle after saving it in their phone’s wallet.

    With Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch, you lock or unlock the car by simply holding your smartphone against the driver or passenger door handle.

    Stored in the wallet app of your mobile device, Hyundai Digital Key 2 and Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch utilise Near Field Communication (NFC), and Hyundai Digital Key 2 utilises ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which both offer a high level of security thanks to modern encryption technologies. NFC prevents the car from being accessed by others when you just happen to be nearby. 3

    Getting started

    Activating Hyundai Digital Key.

    There are three different ways to activate your Hyundai Digital Key 2 and Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch. You can find the step-by-step instructions for all three below. If you are using a Samsung smartphone, please be aware that Hyundai digital keys are not available in all countries yet, but will be added in accordance to Samsung's service coverage.

      How to activate via the Bluelink app.

      • Please ensure that you have both of your smart (physical) keys and your mobile device with you in the car.
      • Turn the vehicle on, shift your gear into “P” (automatic transmission) or maintain stationary status (manual). Open the Hyundai Bluelink Europe app.
      • The Hyundai Bluelink Europe app will display a pop-up window for Digital Key Registration. Click the “Add” button in the pop-up (alternatively, you can also select [More] – [Vehicle Digital Key]). On the next page, click “Register Digital Key”.
      • The activation process will be sent to your wallet app. Please follow the instructions displayed in your wallet app. 
      • Once pairing has started, please place your mobile device on the wireless charging pad in your vehicle (only for Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch).
      • In the vehicle infotainment system, please select [Setup] -> [Vehicle] -> [Digital Key] -> [Smartphone Key]. Click the “Save” button to pair your Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch.

      How to activate using a URL link.

      • Please check your email for your activation code and URL link, which you should have received as an email. If you are unable to find this email with the URL link and activation code, please open the Bluelink app and follow this process to have the email resent.
      • In the Bluelink app, tap "More" in the lower right corner.
      • Then tap "Vehicle Digital Key".
      • Then Tap the ? icon.
      • Then tap "Digital Key 2 registration" on the popup.
      • Then enter your email address into the field on the popup that asks: "Would you like to receive information about Digital Key 2 registration at your email?"
      • Then press send.

      How to activate via activation code.

      • Please ensure that you have both of your smart (physical) keys and your mobile device with you in the car.
      • Turn the vehicle on, shift your gear into “P” (automatic transmission) or maintain stationary status (manual).
      • Place your mobile device on the wireless charging pad in your vehicle (only for Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch).
      • In the vehicle infotainment system, please select [Setup] -> [Vehicle] -> [Digital Key] -> [Smartphone Key]. Click the “Save” button to pair your Hyundai Digital Key 2 (Touch).
      • Once pairing has started, your mobile device will ask you to enter the activation code, which you have received at the email address you shared at the start of the activation process.

      • In the Bluelink app, tap "More" in the lower right corner.

    You can find answers here to a wide range of question pertaining to the activation and use of Hyundai Digital Key 2 and Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch.  Both require a compatible mobile device, Bluelink app installation and an active Bluelink subscription.     There are three possibilities to activate Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch, which are detailed on the page above: Via Bluelink app, a URL link and an Activation code via your Infotainment touch screen. Both smart (physical) keys are required to be in the car for initiating the activation process of the Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch.
    Please make sure if you are using a compatible mobile device and Operating System version. When activating Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch, you must have both of your smart (physical) keys with you in the vehicle. This is required for security purposes. Bluelink must be activated in your vehicle, so that it is connected to the network.
    Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch works via NFC (Near Field Communication) and can be more easily recognised when the NFC sensor of your door handle and the sensor of your mobile device are held close together (less than 4 cm apart) or are touching. Consult the website of your smartphone manufacturer for the exact location of the NFC sensor in your smartphone.
    Yes, Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch will work even if the battery of your iPhone, Samsung or Pixel device is empty. Depending on the phone model you can still use the Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch function on your phone for 2-3 hours. It varies depending on the phone's battery performance, and we recommend charging as quickly as possible.
     

    For iPhone users: Both NFC and UWB/BLE technology are available with empty smartphone battery as described above.

    For Samsung and Pixel users: Only NFC technology are available with empty smartphone battery as described above.

    Yes. Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch works via Near Field Communication (NFC) and Digital Key 2 utilises additionally BLE (Bluetooth low energy), and Ultra Wide Band (UWB) – independently from your network provider.
    • Digital Key 2 Touch: Yes. NFC sensors are located in the driver and passenger door handles and the wireless charging pad. Once the driver unlocks/locks the vehicle via one of the sensors in the door handles, the whole vehicle is unlocked/locked.
    • Digital Key 2: Yes. UWB sensors are located around the vehicle. The vehicle will automatically unlock when approaching with your smartphone while the vehicle has to be locked manually.
    Yes, you can share Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch with up to 15 other devices (smartphones and/or paired Apple Watches). Each device occupies one shared key. For example, you can decide to share your Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch with 3 Pixels, 3 iPhones, 3 Samsung and 6 Apple Watches. 

    Only available for Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch compatible smartphones and Apple Watches.
    Your key can be shared using the wallet app on your mobile device (Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet).


    The keys are stored securely in your mobile device's secure memory. For communication between mobile devices and vehicles, Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch utilises Near Field Communication (NFC) and Digital Key 2 additionally utilises BLE (Bluetooth low energy) and Ultra Wide Band (UWB), which exhibits a high level of security. We make every effort to ensure that the products and services we provide are secure. However, we also need your credentials with third parties.

    • The NFC wireless data communication takes place only when the device and the reader are within a few centimetres of each other.
    • The UWB wireless data communication provides a secure range to prevent malicious misuse.
    • Digital Key 2 Touch: No, Near Field Communication (NFC) only works when closer than 4 centimetres.
    • Digital 2 Key: No, trough Ultra Wide Band (UWB), the vehicle/car will automatically unlock when the DK2 is closer than approximately 1.5 metres. The vehicle/car will lock automatically 30 seconds after the unlock if no door is opened.

    You can also lock / unlock your vehicle/car remotely from a further distance by using Bluelink. This feature does not replace the driver´s responsibility to verify the car is locked when not in use. 

    Yes, you need to activate Bluelink in the car as well as on your phone to activate Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch.

    On shared phones, Bluelink App is not required.
