The Hyundai Future Mobility School

6 minute read

When you think of epicenters of mobility innovation, the first image is probably a high-tech R&D facility with engineers running complex models in brightly lit, clean rooms and impressive wind tunnels. What's unlikely to come to mind is ordinary school classrooms filled with young students whose careers are still in the distant future. Welcome to the Hyundai Future Mobility School(FMS), where tomorrow’s leaders get an inspiring boost.

Fast-tracking innovation by
investing in the youth

We are fascinated by mobility and its power to connect people and drive a more sustainable future. We also know that creating a passion for moving the world forward begins with a motivating spark that can transform young students' perspectives and lead to new career paths. This is the idea behind the FMS.

This unique educational program from Hyundai was launched in 2016 in partnership with the Korean Ministry of Education as part of the country's Free Semester System. Since then, more than 100,000 students in over 2,500 schools have participated. The specialized curriculum fosters new perspectives while opening up a fascinating world where students can discover and understand the importance of mobility and even consider a career path in the field.

From topics like 'Understanding autonomous driving' to 'Eco-friendly mobility saving our planet', students are introduced to an exciting world of technology and future possibilities. All classes encourage free thought, creative collaboration with other students, and hands-on learning to help them become aware of the rapidly changing world around them and take part in shaping the future.

The courses offered by the Hyundai FMS also have a remarkable success rate, with 97% of the participants stating that it definitely helped them set a career path.

Firing imaginations - fueling innovation

Investing in next-level mobility solutions starts with inspiring and inciting the next generation to raise the bar, ask new questions, and strive for a better future. As a global mobility innovator, Hyundai believes the FMS is an ideal place for students to begin their learning journey and perhaps join us in pushing technological boundaries.

The FMS supports a hands-on approach to learning with diverse, immersive courses that cover various topics, from future mobility subjects to other vital issues contributing to society and human progress. Class topics address sustainability issues such as new fuels and upcycling, as well as technological and design themes designed to spark their imagination with titles like 'The New Mobility World' and 'A Special Future Created by Me and Mobility'.

New courses are constantly being developed to allow students to be part of unique learning experiences and develop their problem-solving skills.

Knowledge acquisition is best achieved in an atmosphere where students are encouraged to explore and interact with the material in a way that brings it to life. Fun and excitement are just as important as theory and implementation. That’s why a fundamental aspect of the FMS is learning through playing, which is achieved by linking all lessons to participatory activities. Each lesson is delivered interactively through methods such as board games or building clay models to address smartphone-induced social isolation and engage students who may have previously been uninterested.

Talent is everywhere

Our mission of inspiring young students through engaging courses and mobility concepts has a broad reach. One of the FMS's major goals is to help bridge the divide between students in urban and rural areas and beyond Korea. Over the past year, Hyundai, its Asia Pacific branch, and the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding have been cooperating to expand the program within Southeast Asian countries to provide opportunities to access more children.

Targeting rural areas in emerging economies comes with different parameters: Teachers report that some students have never seen an electric vehicle up close or come into contact with themes like recycling, let alone upcycling. Reaching these children allows them to unfold their potential and contribute to a better future for themselves, their region, and society as a whole.

From students to leaders

The FMS and its unique approach are all part of our brand vision of Progress for Humanity. Inspiring the youth of today and instilling in them a lifelong sustainability commitment creates the leaders, entrepreneurs, and visionaries who will strive for a better tomorrow. We are proud to actively provide young talents with learning opportunities that open their minds and pave the way to possible career paths with us. For us, it's all about bringing people forward, and the Future Mobility School is a great place to start.
