Hyundai Motor Wins Top Honors at Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2026 for Future Mobility Excellence
SEOUL, July 14, 2026 – Hyundai Motor Company secured three honors at the prestigious Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2026 competition.
Hyundai Motor’s MobED Urban Hopper and Golf modular robot concepts earned a Best of the Best award and a Luminary nomination, while the Concept THREE compact electric vehicle (EV) and CRATER Concept off-road electric SUV secured Winner titles. Only up to five Best of the Best winners are nominated for the Luminary award, with the winner announced at an awards ceremony in October.
These global accolades underscore the brand’s world-class design, technological excellence and status as a highly innovative enterprise.
This award is the result of the company’s design philosophy and inspiration for the future coming together. We will continue to break the mold with our designs to deliver differentiated value and innovate new customer experiences.
Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai & Genesis Global Design
MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid), developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics LAB, is a next-generation mobility robot platform designed for advanced adaptability and scalability. Taking home the Best of the Best award and a nomination for the prestigious Luminary award, the MobED Urban Hopper and Golf concepts showcase the possibilities of this modular platform.
Equipped with an innovative Drive-and-Lift (DnL) module and an eccentric posture control mechanism, MobED maintains a perfectly level posture over uneven terrain, sloped surfaces and curbs up to 20 cm high.
By utilizing mounting-rail compatibility, these top modules prove that consumers do not need separate, specialized robots for different tasks. This expandable hardware-and-software structure positions MobED as a highly customizable service platform for everyday life and leisure.
Winner title recipient Concept THREE presents Hyundai Motor’s vision for next-generation compact electric mobility by perfectly balancing aero efficiency, emotional appeal and usability. As the smallest model in the IONIQ lineup, the EV introduces a new Aero Hatch typology that combines compact dimensions, maximized interior space and sporty proportions.
The exterior reinterprets the brand’s Art of Steel design language in a softer, more approachable manner. Key features include:
Inside, Concept THREE features a driver-centric layout with key controls placed around the steering wheel to ensure focus and safety. Soft upholstery surfaces and sustainable materials such as recycled textiles and aluminum foam support efficient electric mobility.
Winner title recipient CRATER Concept is a rugged off-road EV designed to deliver confidence, control, and comfort in unpredictable environments. By combining structural integrity, functional clarity and emotional design, CRATER Concept transforms the off-road EV into a reliable exploration companion.
The exterior features bold geometry, clean surfaces and exposed functional elements, signaling its readiness for rough terrain. High-tech details add visual depth and reinforce durability:
Inspired by roll cage structures, the CRATER Concept’s interior is built for durability. Wraparound bucket seats provide ergonomic support, while cylinder-type controllers and pixel-based steering feedback allow for precise control. Hidden lighting enhances spatial clarity without distraction, and Hyundai AddGear enables deep personalization for different lifestyles.
Organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany, the Red Dot Award is one of the world’s top-three most prestigious design accolades. It serves as a premier global benchmark for outstanding achievements in Product Design, Brand and Communication Design, and Design Concepts.
The Best of the Best distinction is for groundbreaking designs that set new industry standards, while the Winner designation is awarded to entries that demonstrate high-quality design execution. Chosen from a small pool of Best of the Best winners, the Luminary award is the competition’s highest honor given to the most inspiring design of the year.
