Future mobility

Autonomous
driving

Autonomous driving is a technology that allows vehicles to sense the surroundings, make decisions, and drive to their destination without the driver's direct input.
It's a crucial part of future mobility, with automotive manufacturers and companies involved in its development.

Autonomous driving technology is classified into six levels by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), ranging from Level 0 to Level 5, based on the level of automation. Hyundai is working with leading companies in different fields to advance autonomous driving technology. With a focus on "Universal Safety" and "Selective Convenience," Hyundai is dedicated to developing technologies that will shape the future of mobility.

at every stage of driving, from pick up to drop off.

Autonomous driving technologies can assess the driving conditions on their own while on the road. If there's a risky situation or an impending accident, the system steps in to ensure a safe prevention. And in drowsy driving situations, the system automates tasks to reduce driver fatigue. We provide comprehensive autonomous technologies covering safety, driving convenience, parking safety, and parking convenience to enhance your driving experience.

Additionally, to enhance the safety of autonomous driving technology, Hyundai is preparing for previously unforeseen situations. Hyundai is introducing advanced safety technologies that not only prevent accidents in direct driving scenarios, such as through airbags, seat belts, and ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), but also proactively protect both passengers and pedestrians from potential risks.

Hyundai is currently developing and implementing autonomous driving technologies across multiple levels.

In 2021, at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Hyundai introduced the IONIQ 5 autonomous vehicle at Level 4, a highly advanced stage of self-driving technology.
A Robotaxi, a combination of "robot" and "taxi," signifies a self-driving car that can be called through a service platform. Just like regular taxis, it allows passengers to travel to their destinations, with its Level 4 autonomy enabling it to handle diverse driving situations without human intervention.
The vehicle is equipped with more than 30 sensors, including cameras, radar, and LiDAR, to gather data about its surroundings. Developed in partnership with Aptiv under the brand Motional, Hyundai's autonomous driving technology ensures a safe and dependable ride.
After extensive testing on the streets of Las Vegas, the IONIQ 5 autonomous vehicle is now offering pilot services to passengers.

SDV

Hyundai is fast-tracking its transition to a "Software-Defined Vehicle" (SDV) development approach.
Software-Defined Vehicle

SDV (Software Defined Vehicle)

Hyundai plans to introduce wireless software updates (OTA, Over-the-Air) for all its vehicle models globally by 2025. This means customers can enhance their vehicle's performance and add personalized features without visiting a service center.
Additionally, Hyundai's global software center, 42dot, will focus on software-oriented solutions, including PBV(Purpose Built Vehicle) devices. This strategy ensures ongoing growth by creating user-friendly, technology-driven solutions that cater to individual needs.

Vehicle software platform

In the shift towards SDVs, having a flexible and standardized software platform for vehicles is crucial. This platform simultaneously integrates numerous controllers, sensors within the vehicle, and external cloud resources.
Hyundai has developed a software platform that not only connects drivers and vehicles but also maximizes the vehicle's hardware performance. It allows for the seamless addition of new functions while maintaining a standardized structure. This setup enables the enhancement of various services, including integrating smartphones and smart homes, providing intelligent remote assistance, and advancing Smart Traffic features.
Cars are sharing road data in the cloud

Cloud technology

Cloud technology plays a vital role in handling the massive real-time data generated by vehicles. It allows this data to be collected, analyzed, and shared between vehicles and cloud servers. This communication, known as Car-to-Cloud, is crucial for advancing autonomous driving technology. Hyundai has established data centers in key global locations, including South Korea, the United States, and Europe, using its in-house developed cloud platform. These centers are set to expand further.
Through this infrastructure, Hyundai aims to process vast amounts of data from tens of millions of SDVs around the world. This data includes traffic signals, vehicle sensor information, and operational data. By analyzing this data, Hyundai can enhance autonomous driving safety and offer a more convenient mobility experience for customers.

Connected services

Hyundai's vision for SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) includes a continuous stream of innovative connected services. These services ensure that customers experience vehicles that constantly evolve to offer new and valuable features. Hyundai's SDV integrates various services, seamlessly connecting vehicles, smart devices, and traffic infrastructure. With the convenience of digital keys, passengers can effortlessly access their vehicles using smartphones.
Real-time data, gathered and processed through AI algorithms, accurately assesses changing road conditions, enabling precise navigation guidance. Hyundai is dedicated to further enhancing these connected services. Ultimately, the goal is to provide customers with the essence of a "safe and convenient mobility for peace of mind."

Robotics

Robotics, the fusion of "robot" and "technology," signifies the integration of robots into our daily lives for added convenience.
This technology allows robots to navigate challenging environments like deep oceans and disaster zones, expanding our reach into places difficult for humans to access. Hyundai Motor Group's SPOT, for instance, exemplifies this collaboration between humans and robots, even venturing into places like Chernobyl.
